Australian student visa application process
Applying for an Australian student visa can be a challenging process if not done with due diligence. Many international applicants opt for this route to migrate to Australia.
Before you start your visa application process, ensure you meet the eligibility criteria. To meet the eligibility criteria, you must hold a confirmation of enrolment (COE) from a recognized Australian university for your chosen course. This blog will guide you through the dos and don’ts to help you successfully apply for a student visa.
Step 1- Gather Your Documents
You need to ensure that you have all the necessary documents before you start your application. It is mandatory that you have the following documents:
- A valid passport
- Confirmation of enrolment
- Evidence to show English language ability
- Health insurance coverage for your course duration
- Statement of purpose
- Employment documents
- Proof of financial capability to cover study and living expenses
- Relationship documents if applicable
Step 2- Create an Immi Account
All visa applications are processed online through Immi Account. Whether you are in or outside Australia, you can initiate your student visa application here. Accuracy is key- provide all necessary information diligently to avoid rejections.
Important: If you are already in Australia and planning to apply for a student visa, take note of the following:
You cannot apply for a student visa if you hold one of the following:
- Domestic worker Diplomatic and Consular visa (SC 426)
- Temporary work visa (SC 403) in the Domestic worker stream
- Primary visa holder of Diplomatic visa (SC 995)
- Transit visa (SC 771)
- Visitor visa (SC 600) in the sponsored family stream
Step 3- Upload Your Documents
Once your application is filled out, upload all the supporting documents into your Immi Account. Ensure the documents uploaded are recent and relevant. Uploading irrelevant documents may lead to dismissals.
Step 4- Submit Your Application
After completing your application and paying the visa application fees as per the Department of Home Affairs guidelines, you can submit your application.
What’s Next After Applying?
Following submission, keep an eye out for any requests for additional information from the department. This might include Biometrics or health examinations if you have not done one within the last 12 months.
You will receive a Bridging visa A until your student visa is granted. Ensure you update your circumstances in the application if there is any change after you have submitted the visa application.
Important Considerations
If you have provided incorrect information, you should complete a form 1023 Notification of incorrect answers or update your details through your Immi Account if your visa is still pending.
Maintain lawful status by holding a valid visa while your application is processed. Note that leaving Australia on a Bridging visa A will nullify it.
Conclusion
Once your application is properly filled out and documents are uploaded, await further instructions from the department. Stay updated, adhere to the guidelines, and ensure accuracy throughout the process.
By following these steps and guidelines, you can navigate the Australian student visa application process smoothly and increase your chances of a successful outcome.
