186 visa requirements

If you meet the following requirements then you may be eligible for the 186 visa

  • Have an occupation in the relevant skill occupation list

  • Have at least 3 years of work experience in the nominated field.

  • Have a positive skill assessment

  • Be nominated by an approved sponsor

  • Be under 45 years of age, unless exempt

  • Have at least 6.0 IELTS

Direct entry stream

This is available if you don’t meet residency requirement in temporary residence transition stream

Your occupation must be in the Medium and Long Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)

You need not have worked for the sponsoring employer previously

Your employer must have direct control of the business

Temporary residence transition stream.

This is available only if you hold SC 457, TSS Visa or related bridging visa

Your occupation must be listed in ANZSCO

You must have worked for the sponsoring employer for a certain period

Your employer can be an associated entity in control of the business

Labour agreement stream

This is available If you hold 457, TSS visa or related bridging visa issued under labour agreement while onshore .

Offshore applicants need not have a specific visa.

Your occupation must be approved in the labour agreement

Each agreement is unique and might include any number of changes to the conventional standards.
