Form 888

If you are applying for a partner visa in Australia, or if you are a family member, friend, or colleague of a person who is applying for a partner visa, then this might be the first time you came across Form 888. Whatever the case may be, this blog is for you if you need help with your Form 888.
What is Form 888?
The Form 888 is a requirement in the partner visa process. The form allows the visa applicant to provide evidence from third parties supporting the applicant’s claims about their relationship with their partner on the authenticity and genuineness of their relationship. The department uses this form to assess the social aspect of the couple’s relationship, among other aspects. In short, the form attests to the legitimacy of the couple’s relationship.
Who can fill out form 888?
The form must be filled out by someone who knows the couple well; this can be their family, friends, and colleagues. They must be able to vouch for the genuineness of the couple’s relationship. The declarations must provide specific and detailed information about the couple’s relationship.
Also, the person who is making the declaration must be over 18 years of age.
How many form 888 do you need to fill?
The visa applicant needs to provide at least two forms 888. However, having around 5-6 Form 888 is recommended. Having these forms filled by individuals who have seen the couple’s relationship evolve and give different perspectives into the relationship can present a strong case.
What should you include in your form 888?
Sections 1 and 2 of the form require the person filling out the Form 888, which is neither the visa applicant nor their partner, to provide general information about themselves. Sections 3, 4, and 5 have questions regarding the couple. The questions are as follows:
Section (3) State how you know the applicant and the applicant’s partner or fiancé(e), and indicate how often you have been in contact with them
Here is a sample:
XXXXXX, the applicant's partner's sister and I are friends through our daughters studying at XXXXXXr. This is how I first got to know the applicant's partner XXXXX 5 years ago.
I first met the applicant XXXX at XXXX bridal shower on the 27th of October XXXX. We played bridal shower games together on the day and I went onto meet her again every time I visited the XXXX family in their home during bridal party dance rehearsals, lunches and dinners.
Section (4) State whether you believe the relationship of the applicant and their
partner or fiancé(e) to be genuine and continuing, and give your reasons
for your belief
Here is a sample:
XXXXX and XXXX are both hardworking and responsible partners that are trying to settle down in Australia and start a family together. They are both kind and nurturing towards each other.
When they visited us they talked about saving up for a house together and rescuing a dog of their own and we believe that they are taking all the right steps towards their goals. Our numerous conversations also consisted of everyday activities they do together which I believe to be extremely important in a healthy long term relationship.
State any other matters you wish to add in support of the visa application
This is not a compulsory section, but you can still fill it.
I wish to highlight XXXX has become a part of me and my husband’s friendship circle. I wholeheartedly wish for XXXXX’s visa to be granted enabling him to build his family with XXXXX in Australia
If there is more information to be included and the space provided is not sufficient, you can attach the additional information separately.
The individual who is filling out the form will also be required to attach evidence of their identity. You can do this by attaching a copy of your passport, driver’s license, or any other valid documents that can verify the identity.
